At our newly claimed corner table at Carmine’s in Times Square, I sat down with Jordan Fisher and Solea Pfeiffer for a special episode of Broadway Time. Over plates of pasta and a picture-perfect strawberry shortcake, we talked about friendship, artistry, and the magic of sharing the stage in Moulin Rouge!
Having previously starred together in Hadestown as Orpheus and Eurydice, Jordan and Solea now reunite as Christian and Satine. Their bond runs deep, and it shows in every beat of their performances. “We can communicate without speaking,” Jordan said. “That kind of connection is rare and really special.”
They opened up about the high-energy pace of Moulin Rouge!, with its rapid costume changes and full-throttle staging. “There’s no downtime,” Solea explained. “The moment the show starts, you are in it.” But having each other to lean on makes all the difference. Their backstage check-ins, even a glance or a nod, help ground them in the chaos.
Jordan shared how his perspective on performance has shifted. “I’m not chasing how I’m perceived anymore. I care about how it feels,” he said. As a father and artist, he’s entering this role with a deeper sense of purpose. Solea agreed, reflecting on how this moment in Broadway feels fuller than ever. “It’s humbling to be part of a time when the industry is thriving. To know that I’m standing on stage every night while so many of my friends are doing the same up and down 45th Street is really special.”
We also talked about dream roles, future projects, and a little wishful casting. (For the record, my dream is to see them in Little Women together.) They teased a musical collaboration that’s in the works and lit up at the thought of tackling Sunday in the Park with George as co-leads. “We’ll learn all the tracks and spin a wheel every night,” Solea joked.
Whether they were riffing onstage antics or swapping stories about forgotten lyrics, it was clear how much they love the work and each other. And for me, that made this one of the most joyful interviews I’ve ever done.
