Producers Sonia Friedman Productions, Sue Wagner, John Johnson, and LaChanze Productions announced that the Tony Award winning musical Dreamgirls will return to New York in Fall 2026 in its first Broadway revival. The new production will be directed and choreographed by five-time Tony Award nominee Camille A. Brown.
With book and lyrics by Tom Eyen and music by Henry Krieger, Dreamgirls first premiered on Broadway in 1981 at the Imperial Theatre. Directed by Michael Bennett, the show blended R&B, soul, and Broadway storytelling, featuring songs such as “And I Am Telling You I’m Not Going,” “One Night Only,” and “Dreamgirls.” It earned 13 Tony nominations and won six, launching Jennifer Holliday into stardom.
To cast the trio at the center of the story, “The Dreams,” the production is holding a global search with auditions in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Atlanta, Detroit, Miami, London, Toronto, Mexico City, Amsterdam, Rome, and Paris.
More details, including casting, will be announced in the coming months.
