At the Kristin Chenoweth Broadway Boot Camp, I sat down with Kristin Chenoweth, Bill Damaschke, Tony Marion, and Tatum Grace Hopkins for an exclusive first look at The Queen of Versailles before rehearsals begin.

Chenoweth, known for her Broadway career, is stepping into something new as both star and producer. “I do get to do two hats,” she said. “So many times, as artists, we are asked just to do the lines, but this time they asked me to have a true voice.” She explained how she has embraced fundraising, budget talks, and shaping the production. “I’ve been producing myself, much like you, Joel, for so long that now being given this opportunity makes me so happy.”

Hopkins, who trained with Chenoweth at her boot camp in prior years (we were campers together!!!), is making her Broadway debut. “It means everything,” she told me. “The room is always so positive and supportive, and I couldn’t ask for a better way to make my debut.”

Damaschke described the stage version as an expansion of the 2012 documentary. “The documentary is a slice of our story,” he said. “What I love is the deeper investigation of Jackie and the Siegels and how history repeats itself.” Marion reflected on the process. “From that first reading to workshops to Boston, it has been one of the most exquisite experiences I’ve had in this business. To watch these incredible women create roles in real time has been remarkable.”

With rehearsals about to start, the team is eager to bring this story to Broadway in a way that goes beyond adaptation and digs into ambition, culture, and the American dream. For more information on The Queen of Versailles, visit queenofversaillesmusical.com.
