Broadway favorite Kate Baldwin is stepping into the spotlight as Roxie Hart in Chicago, marking a thrilling new chapter in her storied career. While Baldwin is best known for her powerhouse vocals and rich acting work in shows like Finian’s Rainbow and Hello, Dolly!, this role represents a joyful return to where it all began.
“I was in the ensemble of Thoroughly Modern Millie back in 2002, and that was such a big dance show,” Baldwin shared. “It’s funny, because at the time I thought dance wasn’t really my wheelhouse. I focused more on high notes and acting. But being in Chicago feels like coming full circle.”
Now, Baldwin is embracing Bob Fosse’s iconic choreography with renewed energy. “It’s so joyful,” she said. “Fosse’s movement is technically precise, but it’s filled with character and story. I can’t just do moves for the sake of pretty moves. If I’m telling a story, then I’m in my element.”
As Baldwin takes on one of Broadway’s most recognizable roles, audiences can expect a Roxie Hart infused with her signature warmth, wit, and emotional depth. With Chicago continuing to dazzle audiences after more than 25 years, Baldwin’s arrival adds a fresh spark to the longest-running American musical in Broadway history.
