Morgan Dudley has officially stepped into the role of Eurydice in Hadestown at the Walter Kerr Theatre, and for her, it’s a full-circle dream. Years ago, she bought her first Broadway ticket to see the show as a fan, sitting in the audience in awe of the original cast. Now she’s center stage, bringing Eurydice to life for audiences of her own.
In our interview, Dudley recalled that first bow on the Kerr stage. “I blacked out,” she said with a laugh. “I was so taken over by the energy of the audience that I fell out of body. It wasn’t until I looked back at videos that I realized, oh my gosh, that’s literally me.”
Audiences may recognize Dudley from her work in film and television, including Descendants: The Rise of Red, but returning to live theater has felt like coming home. “On stage, you have to use your whole body to tell the story,” she explained. “It’s been fun to get my nervous jitters out in front of people, and now I feel ready.”
Playing Eurydice is a role she has been dreaming about for years. “I’ve been practicing her in my living room forever,” she admitted. But working with the creative team has allowed her to discover new depths in the character and explore the larger story of Hadestown. For Dudley, it’s more than a performance; it’s a dream realized.
