They may play middle schoolers eight times a week, but the cast of The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee quickly learned that keeping up with today’s slang is a whole different kind of spelling test.

During our latest Broadway Time game, Joel put the cast to the ultimate Gen Z and Gen Alpha challenge, throwing out phrases like “chopped,” “six seven,” “unc,” and “let’s get sendy.” The result? Pure chaos, plenty of laughter, and more than a few questionable definitions.

Kevin McHale, Jasmine Amy Rogers, Justin Cooley, Philippe Arroyo, Autumn Best, Leana Rae Concepcion, Jason Kravits, and Matt Manuel all gave it their best shot, proving that even Broadway’s sharpest spellers can get a little cooked when the vocabulary goes viral.
