Complete Cast Announced for Broadway Premiere of The Fantasticks

Second Stage Theater has announced the complete cast for the Broadway premiere of The Fantasticks, a newly reimagined production of the beloved musical by Tom Jones and Harvey Schmidt.

The cast will feature Maxim Chlumecky as Matt, Nathan Levy as Lewis, Leslie Rodriguez Kritzer as Matt’s mother, Mildred Hucklebee, and Tony Award winner Ruthie Ann Miles as Lewis’ mother, Bessie Mae Bellomy. They will be joined by Kevin del Aguila as Mortimer, David Patrick Kelly as Henry, Ahmad Simmons as The Mute, and Zane Phillips (Broadway debut) as El Gallo.

Directed and choreographed by Tony Award winner Christopher Gattelli, the limited 15-week engagement will begin previews on October 22, 2026, before officially opening November 16 at Broadway’s Hayes Theater.

Featuring a book and lyrics by Jones and music by Schmidt, The Fantasticks originally opened Off-Broadway in 1960 and ran for 42 years, becoming the world’s longest-running musical. Despite its extraordinary place in theatrical history, the show has never previously been produced on Broadway. This modern retelling, revised by Jones himself, centers on two young men and their mothers, whose mischievous plan to bring their sons together sets a story of love, separation, reconciliation, and the transformative power of theater into motion.

The Fantasticks will feature scenic design by two-time Emmy Award-Winner Jason Sherwood, costume design by two-time Tony Award-Winner Linda Cho, lighting design by 2026 Tony Award-Winner Jen Schriever, sound design by two-time Tony Award-Winner Nevin Steinberg, music supervision and orchestrations by Sam Davis, and music direction by Rick Hip-Flores.
