Luke Evans is officially making his Broadway debut in The Rocky Horror Show, and for the seasoned stage and screen star, the experience has been both surreal and exhilarating. “It’s been very, very fun,” Evans shared, reflecting on the transition to New York. “I don’t live in New York, so even coming to this city… it takes a minute to get into the rhythm. He’s embracing the chaos, adding, “There is an energy to it which is unique, and Broadway has its own energy.”
After years of performing on London’s West End, stepping onto 42nd Street carries a special significance. “All these very famous names have now become a reality to my daily existence,” he said. “I’m having the best time. I didn’t think I’d ever do Broadway… so yeah, it’s a big bucket list moment for me.”
Taking on the iconic role of Dr. Frank-N-Furter has been a journey of constant discovery. “It’s been a revelation,” Evans explained. “Every day I discover something else about Frank from my version and my interpretation of him.” He describes the production as “a crazy, trashy, absurd, joyous, celebratory, all-encompassing, all unique show,” adding, “There’s not a show like it… and Frank is the leader of it.” From performing in high heels and fishnets to commanding the stage, Evans notes, “I’ve got a lot of firsts in this show.”
Despite being familiar with The Rocky Horror Show since he was young, Evans never imagined this would be his Broadway debut. “Did I think I would do my Broadway debut playing Frank-N-Furter? No,” he admitted. But now fully immersed in rehearsals, the show has taken over his day-to-day life in unexpected ways. “I do hear it in my head almost on the hour, every hour while I am sleeping,” he said of the music. “The songs go round in my head all the time… it’s what happens in musical theater.”
Still, he’s not complaining. “They’re great songs… and songs that are so recognizable,” Evans said. For anyone who might not immediately recognize them, he added with a smile, “That’s why you should come see the show.”
Richard O’Brien’s The Rocky Horror Show has been in continuous production throughout the world for the last 52 years, the only musical to have achieved this record. The show originally opened at the Royal Court Theatre in 1973, while the subsequent film, The Rocky Horror Picture Show, premiered a few years later in 1975. The stage version has been seen by over 40 million people in some 15 languages. The legendary rock-‘n’-roll musical takes on new life as a guaranteed party at the legendary Studio 54 and will feature some of the most iconic musical show-stopping classics of all time, including “Dammit Janet,” “Touch-A, Touch-A, Touch Me,” “Hot Patootie” and of course, “Time Warp,” the party floor-filler. The Rocky Horror Show is the story of two squeaky clean college kids—Brad and his fiancée, Janet—on their way to visit their former college professor when by a twist of fate, their car breaks down outside a mansion. They meet the charismatic Dr. Frank-N-Furter, Riff Raff, Columbia, Magenta, Eddie, and Rocky. It is an adventure they would remember, for a very long time. Filled with fun, frolics and frocks, this is the show the Daily Telegraph calls “fresh. subversive, and essential.”
The Rocky Horror Show will begin previews on Thursday, March 26, 2026, ahead of an opening on Thursday, April 23, 2026 at Studio 54 on Broadway (254 West 54th Street). This is a limited engagement through Sunday, June 21, 2026.
